Donjon & Pétanque – A One Button Dungeon Adventure

December 2023 – January 2024

Présentation Métrés à Cognin

As part of my school curriculum, I worked alone for two months to create the Unity project Donjon & Pétanque. Making a one-button game, which required all gameplay elements, including menu navigation, to be playable with a single input, was the primary challenge.
Donjon & Pétanque blends a fantastical dungeon-crawling concept with the precision-based gameplay of pétanque. Players take control of an explorer who must overcome progressively difficult stages in order to vanquish a malevolent sorcerer and his "cochonnet (or little ball) of darkness". Players can use spells to trap their opponent in the game's two-player competitive mode as they compete to score the most points.
My work on this project allowed me to showcase several skills:

  • Creating captivating levels and novel gaming mechanics that comply with the One Button gaming restriction.
  • Effectively managing the project with a well-defined backlog and schedule to adhere to deadlines.
  • Using Unity to program the entire game, striking a balance between technical accuracy and artistry.
  • During my final presentation, I engaged a huge audience by presenting a live gameplay session with two testers, showcasing my strong presentation skills.
The game was well-received, earning the unofficial award for Best Multiplayer Game out of a selection of over 60 projects.
My ability to independently develop and implement a creative concept—from the earliest idea to the final product—while efficiently managing time and producing captivating player experiences is best demonstrated by Donjon & Pétanque.
